Tree People gathering in Birmingham

Plymouth Tree People were delighted to be invited to a gathering of tree organisations in Birmingham last month and what a valuable and interesting trip it was.

Penny, Ali and Matt joined Birmingham TreePeople, Street Trees for Living as well as people who work in trees from Sheffield and Belfast City Council. Each group shared the, very different but fascinating, ways they work to engage with local residents to plant trees where they are wanted. We also heard about efforts to plan for the future, such as with the excellent Belfast tree plan, the work other councils are doing to replace failed street trees and how volunteers are surveying young trees to learn what works and what does not.

We hope to meet up again next year - maybe in Plymouth!

While there there was a bit of time to look around Birmingham and spot some of their lovely street trees, some real, some statues!
