About Us
Who we are
Plymouth Tree Partnership is an unincorporated association of community groups and local organisations working with Plymouth City Council and leading conservation charities to promote the importance of trees as a key element of the city's regeneration programme.
Our aims
Working co-operatively, Plymouth Tree Partnership aims to:
Increase interest, awareness and knowledge about the value of trees.
Help communities influence their local environments for the better.
Improve the quality of public and commercial areas by using trees effectively.
What we do
Plymouth Tree Partnership's main focus is building and supporting a network of volunteer Tree Wardens. They are local people who are prepared to learn about and take part in one or more tree-related activities; for example:
Tending to young trees until they become established
Arranging new tree plantings
Carrying out tree surveys
Giving talks to schools and other groups
Helping to administer the network
How we operate
Plymouth Tree Partnership's activities are managed by a steering group whose members are elected by the Tree Wardens. They are joined by officers from Plymouth City Council and the partnership's conservation charities in order to ensure good arboricultural practices are followed.
Tree Wardens choose which area or group of trees they wish to look after. Once confident in their role, they can fit in tree-care activities around their other responsibilities. If a Tree Warden needs help with a particular task, we can usually provide it.
Plymouth's Tree Warden network is part of the Tree Council's national Tree Warden scheme which provides training materials and a regular newsletter. The Plymouth network also receives valuable support from BTCV with the provision of insurance cover and a point of contact. The office is at:
